Beautiful Lot of 4 Religious Art Objects (4) - Patinated bronze - 1950-1960

Beautiful Lot of 4 Mid-Century Modern & Brutalist Religious Art Objects (Ars Liturgica) Beautiful and thematically strongly composed lot consisting of four bronze religious wall plaques and reliefs, dated from the mid-20th century. These objects belong to the popular current of ars liturgica and modern religious art, characterized by their robust, brutalist formal language and expressive power. Contents of the lot: Large cross-shaped wall relief – The Emmaus Walkers Subject: Three figures at the meal (the meal at Emmaus). Dimensions: 9.5 × 9 × 0.8 cm. Weight: 200 grams. Features: Produced in a pronounced brutalist style with a structured, rough background and a beautifully centered scene. Equipped with a convenient hanging eye at the top. Classically designed wall-cross – The Emmaus Walkers Subject: A subtler cross-shaped relief with the Emmaus walkers and the breaking of the bread. Dimensions: 8.5 × 6.5 × 0.5 cm. Weight: 100 grams. Features: Refined relief with a warm bronze patina and a serene appearance. Equipped with a hanging eye. Expressive bronze scene – Emmaus walkers at the table Subject: Three men sharing bread together at a table. Dimensions: 8 × 7 × 1 cm. Weight: 160 grams. Features: A thicker, solidly cast object with strong three-dimensional depth. The facial features and actions are highly striking and soberly designed. Commemorative medal / Plaque in original case Subject: Historical relief medal (depicting a cleric with a crozier and a cityscape, with an edge inscription). Dimensions: The medal has a diameter of 7.5 cm; the accompanying luxury storage case measures 12.5 × 12.5 cm. Weight: 220 grams. Features: Supplied in the original green velvet-lined case. A heavy and well-crafted object with a richly patinated bronze sheen. Why these objects fit so well together: This lot forms a logical and aesthetic whole because all items are thematically rooted in Christian iconography — in particular the Biblical story of the Emmaus walkers (the moment when the risen Christ reveals himself to his disciples during the breaking of bread). Stylistically, the objects seamlessly align through the use of heavy bronze, the modernist-expressionist formal language, and the characteristic post-war brutalist texture that is so emblematic of liturgical art from that period. Historical background and function: In the decades after World War II (especially the 1950s–1970s), religious art in Western Europe underwent a radical renewal. Artists and craftsmen broke with sugary, conventional church art and chose a powerful, sober, and aged style that aligned with modern architecture. These bronze plaques and medals were produced as devotional objects for home use, as liturgical vessels, or as generational and jubilee gifts within Catholic and ecumenical circles. They stem from high-quality metal casting craftsmanship and are cherished collectibles among lovers of mid-century design, religious heritage, and brutalist bronze works. Condition: In good, authentic vintage condition with a beautiful natural patina appropriate for their age. Please look closely at the photos for your own impression. Shipping: They are packed very carefully and shipped insured.
