Beautiful 11.23 g slice of a diogenite meteorite, discovered in Algeria in 2025. This meteorite is currently under analysis and classification at the ADARA Laboratory in the Canary Islands, Spain. It therefore does not yet have an official classification number. The material has been identified as a diogenite, an achondrite belonging to the HED (Howardite–Eucrite–Diogenite) group, a family of differentiated meteorites generally associated with asteroid (4) Vesta. Diogenites are of particular scientific interest because they are mainly composed of magnesium-rich pyroxenes and are considered to represent material formed at depth within the crust of their parent body. A Particularly Interesting Structure This slice displays a very rich and unusual texture, clearly visible in the photographs. Numerous mineral crystals and fragments of various sizes can be observed. Some areas display grey-green to olive-brown tones that contrast strongly with the darker matrix and the numerous small black inclusions. The variation in texture across the slice is particularly striking: some areas appear relatively fine-grained and homogeneous, while others contain large crystals and angular fragments, giving the meteorite a highly mineralogical appearance. The numerous dark inclusions scattered throughout the rock further enhance the contrast and make this slice particularly interesting to examine under magnification. The precise nature of the different mineral phases and the final classification will be determined by the analysis currently in progress. An Extremely Limited Total Mass This meteorite was discovered in Algeria in 2025. To date, only one stone weighing approximately 450 g is known. The amount of material available is therefore extremely limited, making well-sized slices particularly interesting for collectors of HED meteorites and achondrites. Characteristics Type: Diogenite – HED Achondrite Status: Analysis and classification in progress Laboratory: ADARA Laboratory, Canary Islands, Spain Origin: Algeria Year of discovery: 2025 Known total mass: Approximately 450 g Number of known stones: One Specimen weight: 11.23 g Form: Slice Notable features: Very rich texture, large visible mineral fragments/crystals, contrasting areas and numerous dark inclusions A Genuine Rock from a Differentiated Planetary Body Unlike primitive chondrites, diogenites originate from a parent body that underwent geological differentiation, involving the separation and crystallization of different materials. They therefore represent genuine fragments of the ancient geological history of a differentiated asteroid, most likely Vesta, one of the largest objects in the main asteroid belt. This 11.23 g slice is therefore a beautiful collector's specimen, combining scientific interest with a particularly distinctive and attractive visual appearance. The specimen shown in the photographs is exactly the one you will receive. Authenticity guaranteed – Galerie Lithique / Patrice Bachelier Collection.
