Benjamin Levy (1940 – 2010) - Couple surréaliste dans un...

We present to you this very amusing original color lithograph on paper depicting a surreal couple in a theatrical interior by Benjamin Levy (born in 1940). The composition shows a woman wearing a wide hat and a fox-shaped stole, beside a man wearing headwear from which smoke escapes. A sketched representation of the same couple appears on the wall to the right. The work is numbered 32/300 at the bottom left and signed in pencil by the artist “B. Levy” at the bottom right. Title: Surreal Couple in an Interior Technique: Original color lithograph on paper Artist: Benjamin Levy (1940 – 2010). Overall size: 55.5 × 61 cm Condition: Very good overall condition, tiny handling marks on the outer corners Born in Tel-Aviv in 1940 and died in 2022, Benjamin Levy is an Israelo-American painter, sculptor and lithographer whose autodidactic path was marked by dyslexia. Trained in Israel under Abraham Yaskil, in Paris at the École de Montparnasse, and in New York at the Pratt Graphic Art Center, he developed a unique style blending dreamlike imagery, theatricality, and reminiscences of old family photographs. A prolific artist working from dawn to dusk for over 65 years, he divided his life between New York, Tel-Aviv and the artist village of Ein Hod in Israel. His mastery of the graphic arts, especially lithography and etching, enabled him to create a richly explorative oeuvre examining the human condition with a dreamlike and poetic precision. Throughout his career, he had more than 120 solo exhibitions and participated in over 500 group exhibitions worldwide. His works are now in the permanent collections of prestigious international institutions, such as the Jewish Museum in New York or the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. He also received numerous honors, including a prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in the 1980s and the first prize from Audubon Artists in 1969.
