RARE PAIR OF HENSOLDT WETZLAR GALYT 4×40 BINOCULARS Germany – 1930s/40s – complete set with original leather case Beautiful pair of antique Hensoldt Wetzlar binoculars, model Galyt 4×40, remarkable for its characteristic aesthetics, its black leather-wrapped body, and Galilean optical system design. The Galyt 4×40 model is a historical production of the prestigious German house Hensoldt Wetzlar, renowned for the quality of its optical instruments. The version presented corresponds to the model with an enlarged central hinge, first appearing from 1934. Historical context – World War II This model, marketed from the 1930s, belongs to a period covering notably World War II. Some documentation and collector references report the use of Galyt specimens in a military context during this period, amid high demand and shortages of optical instruments. However, it should be noted that the military use of this exact specimen cannot be certified, in the absence of military markings or documented provenance. This possibility nevertheless gives the set an additional historical interest, especially for enthusiasts of German optics. Complete ensemble Hensoldt Wetzlar Galyt 4×40 binoculars Original brown leather carrying case Original leather strap Condition The binoculars are in good overall condition considering their age, with some signs of use and a nice patina consistent with their age. The original leather case is complete, with its clasp and strap. The leather shows significant patina and requires restoration or care, but there is no major damage and it remains perfectly interesting to accompany the binoculars. A collectible item An old and authentic set, interesting for collectors of antique binoculars, German optics, scientific instruments, and historical militaria, with the particularly sought-after advantage of being preserved with its original case. Indicative dating: from 1934, with production of the model through the mid-1950s. The exact year of manufacture remains to be determined according to the serial number.
