BRAQUE (Georges). — Georges Braque in Europe. Bordeaux and Strasbourg, Galerie des Beaux-Arts and Musée d'Art moderne, 1982. A square quarto volume, paperback, with a color-illustrated cover. Catalog of the exhibition organized to mark the centennial of the birth of Georges Braque (1882–1963), presented at the Galerie des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux from May 14 to September 1, 1982, then at the Museum of Modern Art in Strasbourg from September 11 to November 28, 1982. This exhibition traces Georges Braque’s European career and the major stages of his artistic evolution, from his early Fauvist works to his Cubist compositions and the major works of his mature period. The book features an extensive collection of black-and-white and color illustrations, including, notably, landscapes of L’Estaque, Cubist compositions, and still lifes. Published to mark the centennial of one of the founders of Cubism, this catalog serves as a valuable resource on Braque’s place in the history of modern European painting.
