Bronze set: Reclining Buddha in Parinirvana & multi-story...

Exceptional two-piece bronze set from an Asian collection, consisting of a reclining Buddha and a tall, richly carved pagoda/temple tower. The Buddha is depicted in a reclining pose, head resting on the hand. This representation is often associated with the Parinirvana Buddhas, the Buddha's entrance into final Nirvana. The figure rests on a richly ornamented pedestal with an surrounding lotus leaf motif. The facial features, the textured hair or Ushnisha, and the flowing robe are particularly well crafted. The accompanying bronze tower is designed as a slender, multi-story pagoda. The numerous stacked roof stories have sharply upturned eaves and small openings. In the lower section there are open door and window shapes as well as decorative cutouts. On the front there is also an Asian script or character sequence. Both pieces show a gold-colored bronze surface with patina from age and use. Oxidation traces, discolorations, minor scratches, wear, and residues or former processing or repair marks are visible at various points. Especially on the reclining Buddha there are clear signs of use around the base, feet, head, and some transitional areas. On the pagoda tower, a greenish oxidation spot is visible in the upper area, among other things. The underside of the reclining Buddha is open and shows the typical casting finish. Dimensions & weight Pagoda / temple tower - Material: Bronze - Height: approx. 40 cm - Width: approx. 12 cm - Depth: approx. 12 cm - Weight: approx. 1,352 g Reclining Buddha - Material: Bronze - Width/Length: approx. 25 cm - Height: approx. 12 cm - Depth: approx. 9 cm - Weight: approx. 1,128 g Total weight: approx. 2,480 g The set comes from an inherited Asian collection. A precise dating or regional attribution cannot be made beyond doubt. Given the design, a provenance from the southern or Southeast Asian region is plausible. The condition is well documented by the numerous detail photographs. These are part of the description. A decorative and unusual bronze ensemble with Buddhist symbolism, which, in particular, conveys an impressive overall impression due to the combination of the reclining Buddha with the tall pagoda.
