What remains today of their towns and villages emptied of their inhabitants? It is to answer this question that I went to Israel: to locate and photograph the vestiges of these ghostly localities disappeared in the swirl of the 1948 war. This reportage is a journey through time; a visual odyssey to the origins of the refugee question. These images are a testimony to a pivotal moment in the history of the region whose consequences are today at the heart of our current events.
