Bruno Morbelli - Centro de Mesa o Copón de Gala con peana...

This magnificent ornamental centerpiece or gala thyrsus is composed of two independent sections whose dimensions confer it an imposing presence, typical of the great display pieces or consoles of the era. The set is a magnificent symbiosis of the fineness of French porcelain with the mastery of Milanese goldsmithing. BRUNO MORBELLI AND HIS WORKSHOP ARTE MORBELLI The Morbelli trademark, with family roots in goldsmithing since 1921, later developed in Italy a peculiar conception of artistic decoration on porcelain. The studio, under the direction of master Bruno Morbelli, became an international reference in luxury collecting thanks to a concept of its own and revolutionary: the “Oreficeria su Porcellana” (Goldsmithing on Porcelain). The prestige of its firm lay in its beautiful designs and in its mastery of engraving the pieces and applying precious metals directly on the relief in a completely manual process. ORIGIN AND ARTISTIC COLLABORATION: This large-scale piece arises from the alliance between two great European luxury references: bone china of extraordinary quality from Limoges (France) and the luxurious goldsmithing virtuosity of Bruno Morbelli’s Milanese workshop (Italy). The markings on the base of the piece, on one side, guarantee its authenticity and origin and on the other, identify the luxury techniques and the costly process of goldsmithing and jewelry employed to transform noble porcelain into a unique work destined for international collection. AUTHENTICITY and MARKINGS: The authenticity of the piece is guaranteed by the marks on the base pedestal, as well as the commercial label of Gioielleria Lady Mary, Andria (Italy). • Author Mark: “ARTE MORBELLI – FINE ARTS FACTORY” - MILANO, ITALY • Arte Orafa su Porcellana: "Arte de Orfebrería sobre Porcelana" • Inciso in Acquaforte: "Engraved in etching" • Oro 24 Kt: the mark identifies the use of 24-carat gold in the gold decoration of the piece. • Soporte: White hard-paste porcelain, manufactured in Limoges, France and marked with the green crown seal on the base and the thyrsus. • The pedestal and the thyrsus retain the original commercial label of Gioielleria Lady Mary, Italian establishment dedicated to jewelry, goldsmithing and silverware in Andria (Puglia, Italy). Together, these elements constitute material documentation especially relevant for the identification and contextualization of the piece. DESCRIPTION OF THE PIECE. The sculptural design of the piece is integrated by two porcelain elements: • Alzata: broad stepped circular pedestal with discreet legs integrated into the mold itself. • Upper thyrsus whose lip, castellated/crown-like in appearance, breaks the horizontal edge and accentuates the monumental silhouette of the piece. • MORBELLI DECORATION TECHNIQUE The ornamental value of this piece lies in the combination of etching, gold decoration, and relief work. The Morbelli mark itself identifies the piece through the expressions “ARTE ORAFA SU PORCELLANA”, “INCISO IN ACQUAFORTE” and “ORO 24 Kt”, formulas that document the technical specialty of the firm. • IRIDESCENT LUSTRE FINISH The piece presents a complex iridescent lustre finish that reveals the high technical mastery reached in its execution. The background is dominated by a deep purple-violet range, with plum nuances that subtly modify its tone and sheen depending on light incidence and viewing angle. Against this changing backdrop, there is a strong contrast with the elegant engravings and the abundant gold decoration, whose relief, brilliance, and density enhance the sense of depth and visual richness of the ensemble. • STYLE and DECORATIVE THEME: The decoration surrounding the body of the piece is inspired by the historicist repertoire with classical and Italian Renaissance inspiration. The iridescent background has been carefully enriched with engravings made with fine strokes representing ornamental urns, from which emerge botanical compositions formed by acanthus leaves, stylized foliage, and scrolls. These motifs visually integrate with the oval reserves framed in gold that flank each urn, inside which develops exquisite floral decoration in the form of a bouquet of gold flowers in relief. The treatment of these reserves, with their gilded frames of pronounced ornamental character, recalls the ornamental language of luxury goldsmithing. A geometric diamond lattice, like treillage, accompanies the reserves laterally and integrates with the gold ornamentation, providing continuity to the overall decorative scheme. The result is an elegant play of contrasts between volume and surface, between the uniform shine of the background, the delicate linearity of the engravings, and the luminosity of gold. The stepped pedestal develops its own decorative program, articulated by a sequence of concentric gold bands and fillets that run through and emphasize its different planes and guide us visually toward the body. Between the gold fillets is an alternating cadence of small golden bouquets and oval engraved shapes, which accompany the pedestal’s volume without diminishing the main body’s prominence. DATING From the typography of the markings, the piece is dated around 1980, a period of peak artistic maturity and commercial expansion of Bruno Morbelli’s workshop. DIMENSIONS Total height: 27.5 cm Pedestal height: 9 cm The mouth diameter: 27.5 cm Upper thyrsus height: 18.5 cm Diameter of the base: 29.5 cm CONDITION: Excellent state of conservation maintaining an elegant aesthetic presence. The piece remains structurally intact with no breaks, cracks, or restorations, and the base retains its supports. The glaze and the gold decoration are preserved in very, very good condition, with only minor superficial wear compatible with its age and limited handling to which it has been exposed. ADDITIONAL NOTES: ** The photographs are part of the description. ** The final measurements and weight indicated correspond to the configuration of secure packaging, indispensable to guarantee proper protection of the piece during transport.
