Bust, René Laennec (1781-1826). Inventor of the stethoscope - 60 cm - Wood

This carved wooden commemorative bust pays tribute to the renowned French physician René Laënnec (1781–1826), the inventor of the stethoscope. The figure depicts the scholar with his eyes closed in a state of deep introspection and auditory concentration; he is dressed in period attire, and the dates of his birth and death are incised upon the volume he holds in his arms. Executed with a direct technique that preserves the vibrant texture left by the carving tools, the work conveys a serene, ascetic solidity and an air of almost monastic withdrawal, highlighting the spiritual and contemplative dimension of this scientific genius. - Sculpted, high quality, cedarwood. - In good overall condition. - Private collection in Paris. - DIMENSIONS: 60 x 37 x 20 cm
