Alle Auktionen / Etnografica / Butterfly Taxidermy full body mount - Parnassius apollo...

A fine French entomological display dating plausibly from the 1960s, gathering three mounted butterflies presented under glass in front of a black-and-white artistic photograph. The staging is particularly successful: the colorful specimens stand out against a photographic landscape of reeds and aquatic vegetation, creating an elegant contrast between naturalism, photography, and decoration. The background photograph is signed and credited “CL. ROBIN,” a credit also preserved on the old label located on the back of the frame. The composition includes three specimens probably identified as: Parnassius apollo, Anthocharis euphenoides, Pararge aegeria. These identifications are based on visible characteristics and are given with caution. The piece is presented in its original deep wooden frame, with glass and an old mount. The verso preserves several particularly interesting elements that document its history, including a label reading “Présentation – Conservation – Brevetées S.G.D.G. – Photo ‘CL. ROBIN’.” Another label bears the name of the famous Lyon house BENOIT-GUYOT, 15 rue Émile-Zola in Lyon, a historic major shop specialized notably in furniture, decorative objects, and works of art. This label attests to the piece being marketed by Benoit-Guyot and is a notable provenance element. The frame’s aesthetics, its presentation method, the photograph, and the old labels reasonably situate this composition in the 1960s. A decorative piece with a lot of character, halfway between entomology, early photography, and a curiosity object, naturally finding its place in a cabinet of curiosities, a natural history collection, or a vintage eclectic interior. The piece shows age and use marks consistent with its antiquity. The butterflies, the frame, the glass, the photographic background, and the old labels are visible in detail in the photographs. The photographs are an integral part of the description and allow precise appreciation of the condition, details, and time marks. The item will be shipped quickly and with great care. The frame will be securely protected and packed in packaging suitable for fragile items to ensure optimal protection during transport.
