Baroque Portuguese Contador Cabinet Rosewood (Brazilian rosewood) with brass hardware. Portuguese furniture from the colonial era of the 17th century, the “Contador com Trempe.” In the 17th century this type of furniture developed across Europe, albeit with different expressions of national styles. In Portugal this furniture stood like no other for the so-called Portuguese “national style” of furniture. Generally, these pieces were used to store valuables and documents. With the addition of the standard (“com trempe” in Portugal) the cabinets are for the first time autonomous, which up to then were, for example, simply placed on an existing table. The surrounding carroserie decorated with the typical profiles. Six drawers, with cut profiles, whose panels give the viewer the impression that there are nine drawers. Brass hardware on each drawer and on both sides a handle, reminiscent of the old function of the original, because these pieces originally had no own base. The base was made in the 19th century, with some restorations Photos are part of the description, so make sure to view the photos carefully to avoid any misunderstanding. If in doubt, ask questions via the auctioneer before bidding.
