Chair (2) - Steel, Chrome

Two exceptional vintage design cantilever chairs in chrome – in the style of Gastone Rinaldi / RIMA – presumably 1970s For sale is an exceptional pair of chromed design cantilever chairs, presumably from the 1970s, whose elegant shaping and distinctive construction show clear parallels to the designs of the renowned Italian designer Gastone Rinaldi (1920–2006) for the manufacturer RIMA. The two chairs come from an inheritance and have remained together as a pair in private ownership since their acquisition. According to the information available, they are likely from the 1970s. Design and execution The chairs impress with their exceptionally delicate yet expressive design. Particularly characteristic are the continuous, elegantly curved metal rods that connect the seat and backrest into a harmonious unit. The polished chromed steel frame, the slightly reclined high backrest, and the distinctive, curved cantilever construction give the chairs a timeless, almost sculptural appearance. The clean lines and the reduced form reflect the experimental design of European mid-century and 1970s furniture. The design particularly recalls the innovative metal furniture of the Italian designer Gastone Rinaldi, whose designs for RIMA are today valued among enthusiasts and collectors of classic design furniture. Origin and attribution The chairs come from a private inheritance and are attributed to the 1970s based on their design and the historical dating provided. No manufacturer signature or corresponding label is present. This is not unusual for historical design furniture, but it does not allow unequivocal identification. Because of the striking constructive and stylistic similarities, attribution to Gastone Rinaldi or to the manufacturer RIMA is possible. A definitive authentication has not yet been obtained. Condition The two chairs are in a well-maintained vintage condition that corresponds to their presumed age. The chromed surfaces show signs of aging and use, with isolated scratches and minor surface changes. The overall condition can be inferred from the attached original photographs. Special features An extraordinary pair of chairs, distinguished by their rarely seen form, the delicate metal construction, and the elegant chrome finish. Whether as a stylish addition to a modern living interior, as an accent in a mid-century setting, or as an interesting object for lovers of historical design furniture – these two cantilever chairs combine timeless aesthetics with a distinctive design presence. Both chairs are offered together as a pair. B
