Charcoal drawing of a seated girl, European School, 19th century

Descriptio Charcoal drawing on paper. Dimensions: 18 x 14 cm (unframed), 25 x 22 cm (framed). The work depicts a girl in a withdrawn attitude, seated on the floor with her head bowed, captured with an intimate naturalness that reveals the artist’s compassionate gaze toward childhood. The lines are delicate, and the soft shading defines the volumes with academic precision. The contrast between light and shadow lends depth and serenity to the composition. This realistic drawing reflects the 19th-century sensitivity toward everyday and domestic themes, treated with elegance and formal purity. The simplicity of the line and the harmony of the whole lend the figure a melancholic sweetness, characteristic of late Romantic aesthetics. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed.
