Charles Antoine Acloque - Pharmacy jar - Porcelain - medicine bottle with cap

Material: Decorated porcelain in polychrome and gilding Piece title: “Pharmacy Bottle with Stopper – Ext: Fumariæ” Author/Workshop: Casa Acloque, Paris, linked to Charles Antoine Acloque (1753–1825) Period: Early 19th century, probably the first third Country of origin: France Mark on base: “Acloque rue de la Barillerie Près le Palais Justice N°22”, according to the transcription provided Condition: Generally good appearing condition in the photograph, with visible gilding wear. Some minor losses. Overall dimensions: 28.5 cm high and 12 cm in diameter. French pharmacy bottle in white porcelain, cylindrical body and with a raised cap topped by a drop-shaped finial. It features a polychrome and gilded decoration inspired by Egyptian motifs, with two facing sphinxes at the bottom, green-leaved palm trees and purple clusters, and a gilded serpent crowning the central cartouche. The inscription in black “Ext: Fumariæ” identifies the intended contents of the vessel: extract of fumaria. The wide gilded bands on the upper edge and base, together with the gilded moldings adorning the cap, enhance the contrast with the white porcelain background. According to the base mark provided, the piece comes from the Acloque house, located at No. 22 Rue de la Barillerie, beside the Palais de Justice in Paris. This house is listed among Parisian establishments supplying pharmaceutical containers. Its documented history and the decoration of the piece allow dating to the early 19th century, without specifying a production year. It is presented with its cap. In the photograph, gilding wear is visible, especially on the edges and the finish. The images form part of the description and should be carefully reviewed to assess its condition. Shipment of the product will be borne by the buyer and calculated according to dimensions, weight, and destination. Shipping costs include professional custom packaging, as well as a personalized shipment with tracking number and guarantee. The buyer will be responsible for paying import duties and any applicable taxes in the destination country, if applicable. The seller is exempt from any liability regarding these charges, which are determined and collected by the customs authorities of the destination country. If an export license is required, the corresponding costs will be borne by the buyer and will vary according to the value of the work.
