CHARLES SYKES "SPIRIT OF ECSTASY" BRONZE STATUE MONUMENTAL “SPIRIT OF ECSTASY” BRONZE — CHARLES ROBINSON SYKES DESIGN — NUMBER 43 — APPROX. 26” TALL A commanding large-scale bronze interpretation of Charles Robinson Sykes’ legendary Spirit of Ecstasy—one of the most celebrated and enduring symbols in the history of luxury motoring. Originally created by British sculptor Charles Robinson Sykes (1875–1950) and adopted by Rolls-Royce in 1911, the Spirit of Ecstasy has become internationally recognized as an icon of elegance, speed, prestige and the golden age of the motorcar. Standing approximately 26 inches tall, this substantial bronze dramatically enlarges the famous mascot into an impressive display sculpture. The female figure leans gracefully forward into the wind, her arms extending behind her as deeply modeled, flowing drapery sweeps upward to create the unmistakable appearance of wings. The sculpture exhibits a beautifully developed warm bronze patina that accentuates the modeling of the face, hair, figure and extensive folds of the billowing drapery. Its impressive scale allows the artistry of Sykes’ celebrated design to be appreciated in a manner impossible at traditional motorcar-mascot size. The bronze is elevated on an elaborate multi-tier presentation base incorporating richly veined marble, finished wood and bronze-toned metal, giving the complete sculpture exceptional height, weight and visual presence. This example is identified as No. 43.
