Chic Art Déco Bracelet with 6.25 ct Diamonds in Platinum, Vienna, c. 1930

One style in particular shaped the world of jewellery in the 1920s: Art Déco. This elegant and modern design language originated in Paris at the major exhibition "Exposition internationale des Arts Décoratifs et industriels modernes" in 1925. 15,000 exhibitors from 18 countries displayed the latest trends in industrial design and applied arts around the Grand Palais, and visitors quickly agreed that a completely new style had emerged for all areas of life. The geometric and powerful forms of the designs, now called Art Déco, soon spread around the world. Cities such as New York and Chicago quickly established themselves as important centers of architecture in this new style. However, the cosmopolitan elites in Central and Eastern Europe also demanded objects in the Art Déco style. This bracelet shows the characteristics of this international style in an impressive way. Four larger diamonds form the centers of loop-shaped links, which are articulated by delicate shadow gaps and feature fine milgrains. A total of around 6.25 carats of diamonds are combined here, covering almost every surface of the top of the flexibly assembled band. The four main links are connected by elegant clasps. The bracelet is made of platinum. Its hallmark proves that it was made in Vienna. We date it to around 1930 and discovered it in the city where it was created.
