Chic Déco Pin with Sapphires and Diamonds, French, c. 1920s

Europe in the 1920s: After the collapse of the old order, the forms of the turn of the century seemed like memories of a lost world. The longing for a new attitude to life demanded an aesthetic that united clarity and brilliance and once again gave pleasure to the eye. This desire gave rise to a language full of rhythm, geometry and luxurious materials that gave the dawn of a new era an unmistakable face. The brooch from France brings this spirit to life in an impressive way. Platinum and gold merge to create a cool shimmer that is further intensified by diamonds and deep blue sapphires. The synthetic sapphires, created using the modern Verneuil process, line up like two luminous arches. An old-cut diamond of around 0.65 carats shines between them, its fire accompanied by numerous other stones. Delicate lines and shadow gaps lend depth to the front and allow the geometric order of the design to shine in a subtle light. In total, more than one carat of diamond sparkles above the filigree construction. The hallmarks indicate France as the origin, and we also discovered this beautiful piece in Paris. The brooch is accompanied by a detailed certificate from the Gemmologisches Labor Austria.
