CHINA. Silver Dollar Pattern, CD (1907). Tientsin Mint. Kuang-hsu

Supremely Radiant Late Imperial Crown Pattern CHINA. Silver Dollar Pattern, CD (1907). Tientsin Mint. Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). PCGS MS-62. L&M-20; K-212 = KM; WS-0025; Wenchao-89 (rarity: ★★). A VERY RARE imperial pattern issue that always generates a great deal of interest and intrigue, this Mint State survivor offers a high degree of glistening brilliance across each side, with some very subtle golden notes further elevating portions of the devices. A few stray marks and light hairlines among the fields on the characters side account for the overall designation, but do not in any way interfere with the enthralling nature of this wondrous example. This Dollar is a representative of the first set of "Tai Ch'ing Ti Kuo" silver coinage. These issues--struck in limited quantities with a familiar obverse design based upon the imperial copper issues beginning in 1906--were placed into circulation and, in less than a year, were replaced by the 1908 issues. Estimate: $100,000 - $150,000. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
