Precious and refined oriental sculpture from the period, carved entirely by hand from a single block of natural coral, characterized by delicate color nuances ranging from salmon pink to white (coral variety Momo / Angel Skin). The work elegantly develops in width, following the natural growth of the branch. It portrays a traditional naturalistic motif of very high relief and richly pierced: small birds and paradise birds immersed among knotted branches, leaves, and cherry/peach blossoms. The sculpture is complete with its original contemporaneous dark wooden base, finely shaped and carved to fit. • Origin: China • Period: First half of the 20th century (Republican Era / End of the Qing Dynasty) • Coral dimensions: 14 cm (width) x 7 cm (height) • Overall height with base: 8.5 cm • Wooden base dimensions: 6 cm x 3.5 cm • Condition: Very good, fascinating antique patina.
