Property from the Murphy Family Estate Collection, Savannah, GA Description: Christopher Murphy Jr. (Sav, 1902-1973), 4 Miscellaneous Etchings, all unsigned, comprising an etching, depicting a scene in artist's studio; etching of archway with group of people at the entrance; an etching of a colonial-style house with a covered porch; and a hand-colored etching with man's profile and a boat with two fishermen; all unframed. Provenance: descended from the artist to the Christopher P.H. Murphy family collection. Christopher Murphy Jr. was a notable 20th century Savannah, Georgia artist. Murphy's artistic education started early as both of his parents were respected Savannah artists, and continued with formal training at the Art Students League. His superior technical skills allowed him to work in a variety of mediums and subject matter and he is best known for his city and landscape scenes of his home town Savannah. He was an active member of the Savannah Art Club and taught art classes around town. During his career his work was exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Art Institute of Chicago, New York Watercolor Club, American Watercolor Society, Sesquicentennial Exposition in Philadelphia, Whitney Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Southern Art League. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Morris Museum and the Telfair as well as in various private collections.Measurements: Height: of the print with house 11 in. x Width: 14 in. Condition: Please note the first group image is not scaled to size. Overall fair condition, significant toning and some foxing to all; significant foxing to paper of the print with house and creasing to corners; loss to corner of archway print; and losses to edge and corners with pin holes and restored tear to lower edge to print of artist's studio.
