Claus Bertermann (1965) - Beso

Artist: Claus Bertermann OFFICIAL WEBSITE: www.bertermann.art The story behind "Beso" A café bench, a small table, an ordinary afternoon. Then a young man and a young woman lean towards each other, close their eyes and kiss. His arm reaches around her shoulders, his hand gently holds her face. The café keeps going around them, but for these two, the world has just become very small: exactly the size of one kiss. Look closer, and their two faces almost become one. Their closed eyes rest at the same height, their cheeks touch, their lips meet at the very centre of the canvas. Everything about them is calm, except for one thing: the flowers in her hair. They are painted as little spinning spirals in red, orange and yellow, as if they had burst into bloom at the very moment of the kiss. That is what a "beso", a kiss in Spanish, can do. About the artist Claus Bertermann holds a Master's degree in Architecture (TU Munich) and is an internationally collected contemporary artist, with more than 1,000 large-format works in private and institutional collections, including a monumental triptych at the Technical University of Munich. His abstract paintings have reached top auction results such as €18,900 at C. h. r. i. s. t. i. e´s Paris and €15,240 at S. o. t. h. e. b. y´s Cologne, with further sales at V. a. n. H. a. m, A. r. t. c. u. r. i. a. l and D. o. r. o. t. h. e. u. m. In 2026 he started a radically new figurative series: people and scenes in bold, emotional colour, inspired by German Expressionism. First he paints the background with loose, broad brushstrokes. Then he draws the figures on top with oil stick, in clear and confident lines. Visual description Two young people sit side by side on an orange-red café bench, both in shades of blue. On the left, the young man with dark hair, his eyes closed; on the right, the young woman, her hair crowned with red, orange and yellow flowers. Their faces meet at the centre of the canvas, his deep blue sleeve stretched across her shoulder, his hand drawn in fine orange lines around her cheek. Behind them, a glowing green background with yellow light; in front, the pale edge of the café table. Signed in red oil stick at the lower right. One detail for those who look twice: both of them have their eyes closed. The only one looking at this kiss is you. Why it is worth the price A large, museum-scale painting from the first year of a radically new series. "Beso" joins "Orbit", "Common Ground" and "Nocturne" in a group of works about couples, each showing a different moment of closeness. Universal, warm and instantly understood in every language, it brings tenderness and energy to a living room, a bedroom or a restaurant wall.
