COINDRE — “OUR SUPPLIES” - Lot 86

COINDRE — “OUR SUPPLIES” COINDRE (Victor). Our Supplies. Paris, Lith. Taillart, 22 rue Sainte-Anne, [1870–1871]. A colored satirical lithograph depicting two caricatured German soldiers, laden with an implausible array of gear and provisions, against a backdrop of Paris. Numerous handwritten inscriptions and captions incorporated into the composition. The scene satirizes the difficulties of resupply and Prussian ambitions during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871. Lithograph on paper, hand-colored. Signed “V. Coindre” in the stone in the lower right corner. Title “Nos ravitaillements” beneath the composition. The print is slightly browned, with a few foxing spots and small stains; creases and slight signs of wear; a small marginal tear at the top. Colors are well preserved.
