Documentary and historical compilation of 15 items (3 manuscripts and 12 printed) relating to the King of Rome, involving several historical and regional figures. The documents date from 1810 to 1865, with a strong concentration on the year 1811. Written in black and brown ink on various leaves, booklets and placards of laid paper, some pieces bearing typographic headings, red wax seals with the Empire’s coat of arms, and damp archival certification stamps. In this set, multiple authors (Italian literary men, academics, the Bishop of Le Mans) celebrate the birth and baptism of the King of Rome through poems, cantatas, speeches, and episcopal mandements. The lot is notable for two manuscript letters by Count Montesquiou, Grand Chamberlain of the Empire, addressed to the miniature painter Aimée Thibault to organize and commission official portraits of the young prince, as well as for a double manuscript certified by the famous archivist Luigi Osio. Details of the pieces in the collection: — 2 manuscript letters by Count Montesquiou (portrait commissions, 1811 and 1813). — 1 manuscript in 2 parts certified as true and signed by Luigi Osio at the State Archives of Milan in 1865 (Floriano Caldani’s Speech and an octaves poem from 1811). — 12 printed items (sonnets by C. Piccoli, O. Barbavara, G. Cattaneo; a speech by E. Berta; cantatas by Egeria and Bergamo; inscriptions from Varallo; a twofold article from Telegrafo del Brenta; episcopal mandement with imperial letters). - Dimensions: smallest 21.3 x 33 cm; largest 15.5 x 19.2 cm - Condition: good to very good overall, with typical wear creases, scattered foxing, light old dampness on some prints, and traces of wax seals on the back of the correspondence.
