Splendid and excellent original graphic (color aquatint and etching with strong relief) by master Guillaume Corneille (1922-2010), a fundamental artist and co-founder of the avant-garde group CoBrA. This lot is part of the famous series of graphics "1948", printed and published in 1988 to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the movement's foundation. In this particular plate, Corneille best expresses his primitive and playful poetics, recreating shapes of birds, stars and stylized figures that recall the purity of his famous early drawings. The specimen is a rare and prestigious Artist's Proof, marked in the lower left corner as E/A (Épreuve d'Artiste), traditionally reserved for the master's private market. - Autographed pencil signature at bottom right: "Corneille '88". - Double dating: "1948" in pencil at the center and "'88" next to the signature. - Printed on high-quality, heavy-weight paper with excellent unmargined margins. - Condition: Excellent state of preservation, bright and saturated colors, never framed.
