Coryse salome - Perfume bottle - Monumental Art Deco...

Up for auction: an exceptional monumental tabletop perfume bottle, standing 16 cm high and weighing about 320 g in total, signed on the base by the prestigious Parisian brand Coryse Salomé and dating to the 1930s. It is not just a simple vial, but a true hybrid masterpiece that blends the avant-garde design of high French perfumery with the legendary craftsmanship of Far Eastern silversmiths. The bottle comes complete with its original 900 solid silver cap weighing 20 g—a crucial detail that preserves its integrity and maximum collectable value. The Secret of the Manufacture: The Silver Route This object tells a fascinating industrial and artistic adventure born in the heyday of colonial times. In the 1930s, to crack the ultra-luxury market, Parisian perfumeries began a unique collaboration with the territories of French Indochina, particularly in the areas of present-day Cambodia and Vietnam. The manufacturing process was extraordinary: The Crystal in Paris: The heavy glass body was cast in a mold in France, designed with clean lines and sharp angles typical of the European Art Déco taste. The Journey to the East: The nude flasks were shipped by sea to the overseas goldsmith laboratories. The Custom Cage: There, local master silversmiths hand-shaped a protective silver cage in 900 fineness directly onto the glass profile. The metal was pierced and chiseled with micro-floral scrolls and tendrils inspired by Khmer sacred art, framed by mirrorlike arches. The Return to France: Once the coating was completed, the bottle returned to Paris to be filled with precious essences and sold in Place de l’Opéra boutiques at astronomical prices, intended for the dressing tables of high society and nobility. Curiosity and History of the Brand: Between Scandals and Beauty Secrets Born from a commercial spark (1929): The house arose from the union of two beauty geniuses. On one side Coryse Parfums, founded in 1919 by the famous chemist and “nose” Maurice Blanchet; on the other Salomé, a luxurious Parisian boutique known across Europe for a unique service: it sold scented powders by the gram, weighed in front of customers on precision scales. Their fusion created a luxury empire. The Secret War with Chanel No. 5: In 1932, Coryse Salomé launched on the market its iconic fragrance, Opéra. This perfume is a myth among collectors: Blanchet formulated it using a massive aldehyde, jasmine, and ylang-ylang accord, designed specifically to challenge and surpass in sales the renowned Chanel No. 5. Owning an exceptional bottle like this meant displaying the rival most sophisticated of Coco Chanel’s perfume. The Invention of Luxury “Corners”: Coryse Salomé was among the first brands in the world to understand the importance of visual marketing. They invented the concept of “exclusive concession”: their products, especially the monumental silver-clad flacons, could not be sold in ordinary shops but only in reserved corners inside the world’s most luxurious grand hotels or in the salons of transatlantic cruise ships. The Secrets of Glass: If you turn the bottle upside down, besides the inscription CORYSE SALOMÉ - Made in France etched in the glass, you’ll notice a small geometric emblem. It is the mark of the art glassmaker, most likely the historic Pochet et du Courval, the same house of excellence that produced glass for the personal perfumes of the French imperial court. Technical Specifications and Condition Dimensions: Height 16 cm | Width 9 cm Weight: Total approx. 320 g | Cap alone: 20 g Material: French artistic glass and solid silver 900/1000 (tested) Conditions: Excellent vintage condition. The glass is exceptionally clear, free of chips, cracks or opaque calciferous residues inside. The silver cage is solid, with all microscopic welds of the lattice intact. The piece retains its precious original dark patina due to natural aging. It can be easily polished if you prefer a mirror finish. The original stopper fits perfectly into the ground-polished neck. A unique investment opportunity to enrich a collection of vintage high-end perfumery, vanity items, or Art Deco silverware.
