Creedence Clearwater Revival

Three Dog Night shares a strong musical affinity with early 1970s soft rock, pop-rock, and R&B-oriented rock bands known for their powerful vocal harmonies and their practice of recording songs by outside writers. Three Dog Night collaborated extensively with Brian Wilson (of the Beach Boys) during their early days. A related group is The Association, known for their complex, crystal-clear vocal harmonies within the pop-rock genre. Like Three Dog Night, Blood, Sweat & Tears combined pop-rock with soulful R&B influences, powerful vocals, and a strong live lineup featuring horns or keyboards. Chicago, too—especially in their early 1970s work—shares that energetic blend of melodic rock, pop, and soulful vocals. Creedence Clearwater Revival (though they played more roots rock) also shared the knack, during the early 70s, for scoring extremely catchy, unpretentious American radio hits characterized by a distinctive, raw vocal energy.
