Cypriot Revival Electrum Bull's Head Earrings with Granulation

Europe. A pair of electrum drop earrings in the Cypriot revival style, each formed as a stylized bull’s head. The alloy is 51% gold and 37% silver, equivalent to roughly 12 karat. An open circular hoop thickens at its base into the brow, below which a tapering muzzle hangs, with tight spiral volutes at the shoulders for the ears. Granulation, small spheres of metal fused to the surface, decorates the surface. A small suspension ring at the top carries a separately added wire hook. The design follows Late Bronze Age gold earrings from Cyprus, examples of which are in the British Museum. Item # 205474
