Decorative ornament - bas-relief - Spain - The Last Supper - XL - 65 cm

This handcrafted relief of Christian Art constitutes a singular interpretation of the Last Supper, fashioned in molded paste from original matrices designed around 1880. The piece follows the tradition of workshops devoted to reproducing historical religious models, preserving the aesthetics and formal language of devotional art from the late nineteenth century. The composition presents Christ accompanied by the twelve apostles arranged in a frontal sequence of vertical figures, each individualized through gestures, attributes and delicate folds in the garments. Unlike conventional representations of the Last Supper around a table, this model adopts a more symbolic and monumental iconographic solution, emphasizing the spiritual dimension of the characters through an orderly and solemn arrangement. The halos crowning the heads reinforce their sacred character, while the central figure of Jesus stands out for its greater hierarchical presence within the ensemble. The careful molding technique allows for a notable richness of details in the faces, the tunics and the decorative elements, creating an attractive play of light and shadow across the surface. The contrast between the dark-toned figures and the gilded background provides visual depth and highlights the elegance of the relief, evoking the aesthetics of ancient liturgical frontals and historicist religious imagery. Inspired by molds created in 1880 and executed through artisanal processes, this relief combines artistic, symbolic and decorative value. Its horizontal format and refined presence make it a piece especially suitable for sacred art collections, spaces of contemplation, or interiors where one wishes to incorporate a element of deep spiritual meaning tied to one of the most transcendent episodes of Christian tradition.
