Demarquet Frères - Chalice (5) - Vermeil, .950 silver - Neo-Gothic Chapel

Superb neo-Gothic chapel in vermeil, silver, black enamels and engraved glass – Demarquet Frères - France, Paris, second half of the 19th century. Impressive complete liturgical chapel in neo-Gothic style, in silver and vermeil with rich decoration of black enamels, Parisian work by the house Demarquet Frères, accompanied by its original supplier Vallée’s box from Caen. The chalice features a circular base adorned with figurative medallions, including the Crucifixion, the Virgin, Saint Joseph and the Archangel Saint Michael, linked by an elegant scrollwork ornament on a black enamel background. The knop and the cup repeat this Neo-Gothic ornamentation, the latter punctuated by saint medallions, notably Saint Louis and Saint Paul. Height: 19 cm – Gross weight, weighted base: 510 g. The paten, in vermeil and silver, is centered by the monogram IHS on a black enamel background, surrounded by vegetal motifs. Diameter: 15 cm – Weight: 121 g. The pair of cruets in finely engraved glass with floral motifs is mounted in vermeil and enamelled silver, with pierced handles. It rests on its shaped stand. The decoration includes the Latin inscriptions “venit per aquam et sanguinem” and “vinum germinans virgines,” referring to the water and wine of the Eucharistic liturgy. Height of the cruets: 15.5 cm – Stand width: 26 cm – Gross weight of the set: 733 g. A foot mounting has been modified. The various pieces bear the Minerve hallmark for French silver as well as the master’s mark of Demarquet Frères, Parisian goldsmiths. Set kept in its large original compartmented box, lined with red velvet and marked Vallée, Caen. A very beautiful example of French religious esferve craft, particularly decorative due to the contrast of vermeil, silver, black enamels and engraved glass. Very good overall condition, light signs of use; one foot mounting has been modified. The photos are an integral part of the object description and complete its presentation. They allow you to appreciate its condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any purchase. The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number, to guarantee fast and secure delivery. Happy bidding
