The Only Complete Die-Linked Pair in Private Ownership (◊) DENMARK. Duo of Silver Dennings (Wire Money), ND (1619-20). Glückstadt Mint. Christian IV. VERY FINE. KM-6.2; Hede-169; Sieg-166.4; Harck 17.3.3 and KM-5.1; Hede-unlisted; Sieg-166.5; Harck-17.5.2. Both in very fine, toned condition and nicely struck for types with clearly legible inscriptions. Of the utmost rarity and numismatic importance. Die studies of the present coins (Harck, NR 159, Sept. 2023) reveal that Christian IV minted coins bearing the names of Russian Tsars. This was originally discovered in 1960 by A.S. Melnikova, who in 1989 republished her findings in an English-language version, Dennings in the History of Russian-Danish Relations (Nordisk Numismatisk Årsskrift 1989-90, pp. 166-181), while Brekke and Berglund provided an overview of known dies in Danish Dennings (Journal of the Russian Numismatic Society, no. 11, 1983). The present set is the only recorded complete die-linked pair in private ownership documenting this connection between dennings bearing the name of Christian IV and dennings with the name of a Russian Tsar.
