Choice and Enigmatic Penny in the Name of Edward the Confessor DENMARK. Penny, ND (1044-47). Lund Mint. Civil War (stridsperioden). NGC MS-63. Hauberg-2; Hauberg Collection-730; C. J. Becker-E1a/202; Bruun-1583 (illustrated plate 5); Weight: 1.11 gms. Moneyer: Thorcetel. A highly attractive Choice Mint State piece, excellently struck and with a delightful toning. This extremely rare type is especially intriguing for being struck in the name of Edward. As it is otherwise in no way imitating an English type from Edward Confessor, it is a very deliberate choice. Interestingly, the small head in front of the portrait was added later to a die which was already in use. Estimate: €3,000 - €4,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922). To view supplemental information and all items from the L.E. Bruun Collection, click here. Please note: Bid amounts do not include VAT. Buyers which are non-VAT registered entities or individuals who take delivery of lots within EU countries subject to margin scheme taxation will be invoiced a VAT charge and a Buyer’s Premium for a total of 27.5% based upon the total amount of the hammer.
