Desk lamp - Bauhaus - Brass - Bankers Lamps

The object has a very interesting design that recalls the history of industrial lighting and the modernist design of the 20th century. Even though there are contemporary versions that follow this style, such as the Paul Neuhaus PINO line, the aesthetics of your lamp dig its roots in decades of design evolution. The articulated arm design with brass finish and opalized or frosted glass lampshade (features visible in the lamp) is strongly influenced by the Bauhaus movement of the 1920s and 1930s. One of the most iconic examples of this period is the Bestlite BL1 lamp, designed by Robert Dudley Best in 1930. Originally conceived for workshops and drafting tables, it became famous when Winston Churchill chose one for his desk at Whitehall. In the 1950s, this style evolved toward more domestic and refined forms. Many lamps similar to yours were produced in Germany and France during that period. The use of brass and opal glass became a distinguishing hallmark of the “Mid-Century Modern” furniture, combining industrial robustness with an elegant aesthetic suitable for offices and private studies. The combination of brass for the body and glass for the lampshade is designed to diffuse a soft, directional light, ideal for reading or precision work. “Ministerial” design: Often these models are described as “ministerial” or “bankers lamps,” a style born at the end of the 19th century that featured sturdy bases and adjustable arms to illuminate important documents in government offices or banks. Today, this type of lamp is considered a timeless classic, with original pieces from the 1950s and 1960s highly sought after on antique markets. Photos are an integral part of the description. I assure, at the buyer’s expense, the preparation of suitable packaging for safe shipment with tracking in rapid times."
