Alle Auktionen / Sonstige / Dish - Polychrome Maiolica - Manifattura di Castelli - 19th Century
Refined parade plate in multicolored majolica, an excellent testament to the famous compendious and landscape tradition of the Castelli d'Abruzzo ceramic workshop of the 19th century. The work presents a decoration of an "animated bucolic landscape". In the foreground the figure of a fisherman standing with his back, dressed in the typical ochre shirt and blue trousers, stands out. The scene unfolds on rocky ground enriched by tufts of vegetation and Mediterranean-flavored succulents. In the background, laid on a rock spur, rises the ruin of a classical three-column temple (a reference to the taste of the 19th-century Grand Tour), flanked by a small rural cottage. On the horizon stand the hazy profiles of mountain ranges under a sky striped with light clouds. The edge is decorated with a continuous elegant motif of foliate tendrils and olive twigs in bright green, enriched by small spherical fruits. The motif is enclosed internally and externally by a double groove in ochre yellow and black. A typical Castelli palette played on the characteristic tones of the traditional five colors: cobalt blue for skies and fabrics, ramina green for vegetation, ochre/antimony yellow for lands and garments, and manganese brown for outlines and graphic details. The back displays the classic uniform white-ivory glaze of Castelli ceramics, glossy and with a very fine natural craquelure. The plate is completed by an antique cross-shaped metal mount, equipped with a top ring for wall hanging. A collectible piece of great visual impact, ideal for enriching classical interiors or collections of antique Italian majolica. • Excellent overall condition consistent with the era. Light and natural signs of age on the glaze. No restorations. Equipped with an antique cross-shaped wall support in metal. Measurements: Diameter 35 cm.
