Doña Narcisa. Spanish school. 19th century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 113 x 79 cm (unframed) and 126 x 92 cm (framed). This large-format portrait of a woman depicts Doña Narcisa seated, elegantly attired, her body slightly turned and her hands resting naturally, lending balance and nobility to the composition. Her face, with its delicate features and serene expression, is softly illuminated against a neutral background that enhances the figure and focuses attention on the sitter. The treatment of the fabrics is particularly refined, with broad dark areas contrasted by touches of color in the embellishments and a fluid brushstroke that suggests volume and texture without rigidity. The work demonstrates meticulous execution and high technical quality, corresponding to an authorized copy from the Metropolitan Museum made by Barañana de Goicoechea. It showcases an academic mastery of 19th-century Spanish portraiture, integrating formal elegance, precision in drawing, and a respectful interpretation of the original model. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
