Dorothy Gillespie (American, 1920-2012), Colorfall Series: Rain Dance, 1991

Enamel painted aluminum, multi-part wall sculpture, ink inscribed and numbered "UH 87003E" with title card to the verso, comprising two large hinge triangular panels forming a lozenge, adorned with ribbons and mounted to a large two-part backplate, all decorated with matching multi-hue decoration on a white ground. Gillespie Foundation A prolific and talented artist, Dorothy Gillespie shared her talents by teaching and lecturing at various colleges throughout her lifetime. Her exuberant colorful dancing strips and ribbons have graced many public spaces including an installation of 185 sculptures that comprise “Color, Light and Motion” to fill the plaza in front of New York’s Rockefeller Center in 2003. Her sculptures may be found in numerous public collections and museums including the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, NC; Thalian Hall, Wilmington, NC; Asheville Art Museum; and more. Some scattered light surface marks and minor denting.
