Douvilleiceras mammillatum ammonite with pyrite –...

Superb Rare Fossil Ammonite — a magnificent ornamental fossil that combines the primordial power of time with the beauty of mineralogical transformation. This specimen belongs to the genus Douvilleiceras, and shows all the distinctive features of the mammillatum species: robust spiral nodules, prominent ribs, and a conical, flattened structure that clearly reveals the progressive growth of the shell. Particularly fascinating is the presence of secondary pyrite mineralization, which manifests in well-defined, mirror-like metallic patches. These natural inclusions, appearing during the long fossilization process, give the ammonite a striking sculptural note, emphasizing the contrast between the smooth, reflective pyrite surface and the cream, ochre, and caramel bands of the shell. The polished finish allows appreciation of the complex ammonitic sutures and the internal structure visible in cross-section. This ammonite comes from Lower Cretaceous strata of Madagascar, a region rich in fossil fauna, where fossilization often yields specimens of great aesthetic value. Perfect as a display piece, decorative object for study, or museum collection, it represents an authentic dialogue between science and art. Species: Douvilleiceras Mammillatum Era: Lower Cretaceous (about 110 million years ago) Provenance: Madagascar Distinctive feature: Presence of natural pyrite relief Finish: Polished on both sides, with visible cut of the inner chamber
