An important monograph by Théodore Duret devoted to Édouard Manet, accompanied by a catalog of paintings and pastels. The volume is richly illustrated with reproductions, some of which are full-page, including several prints on heavy paper. Duret, who was close to the Impressionists and an early advocate of Manet, published one of the first fundamental studies on the artist. This fourth edition, revised and expanded compared to earlier editions, constitutes an important historical document for the history of Manet’s work. A good copy; the cover shows some soiling, creases, and signs of wear, as well as small marginal tears.
