Rare Antique French Lace Bed Sheet with Wide Lace Border & Monogram "C.A." A truly exceptional and increasingly rare antique French bed sheet, preserved with remarkable care throughout its lifetime. Rather than being used on a daily basis, this exquisite piece would have been lovingly wrapped and stored in a bride's trousseau (dowry) armoire, awaiting only the most special occasions. Its spectacular wide lace border immediately captures the eye and would have transformed the bed into a beautiful centrepiece, proudly displayed when receiving distinguished guests or celebrating family occasions. Such luxurious household linens were among a family's most treasured possessions and reflected both refinement and status. The elegant intertwined initials C.A. are embroidered in fine raised relief, each letter first delicately outlined and then filled with exquisite point de sable ("pinhead") embroidery. The monogram is beautifully entwined with a graceful spray of honeysuckle, a timeless symbol of love and devotion, adding a wonderfully romantic touch to this already remarkable piece. The magnificent hand-made lace border is the true star of this sheet. Despite the passing of many decades, it remains beautifully preserved, retaining all of its delicate detail and elegance. During my inspection I noticed a single loose thread, which has since been expertly secured, leaving the lace in excellent condition. PLEASE NOTE; to get the maximum effect of the fine lace we have added a piece of black felt As with any fine antique lace, I would recommend removing rings or jewellery before use to prevent accidental snagging of the delicate lacework. Measuring an impressive 235 cm (2.35 m) in width, this beautiful sheet is suitable for dressing a bed up to 180 cm (1.80 m) wide, creating a wonderfully elegant and romantic presentation.
