Eastern Woodlands Attributed Birch Bark Canoe

Maurice Region, Quebec, Canada. Mid 20th Century. Uniquely constructed Atikamekw miniature birchbark canoe model from the Mauricie region of Quebec. Decorated with first nation wearing headdress, floral leaf motifs, and a scalloped edge below the gunwales. To obtain these designs the bark would be outlined with a knife and then a thin layer of winter bark is carefully scraped away to create the contrasting colours. Unmarked.
