Alle Auktionen / Etnografica / Echelle Dogon - 155 cm - Sculpture - Mali
Dogon ladders are utilitarian and symbolic instruments used by the Dogon people, primarily residing in the cliff region of Bandiagara in Mali. These ladders, often made from local timber such as millet and fig wood, are known for their simple, functional design. They are used to reach the elevated granaries where grains and other provisions are stored, essential in an agricultural society where food security is crucial. Beyond their practical utility, Dogon ladders carry deep cultural and ritual significance. They are often decorated with geometric motifs and sacred symbols, representing the Dogon’s spiritual beliefs and cosmology. The ladders are used during rituals and ceremonies associated with agriculture and food security, thus marking their importance in preserving ancestral traditions and knowledge transmitted from generation to generation within the Dogon community. Sold without iron support. Sold without iron support. All of our timber is treated against wood-boring insects. Excellent condition, see photos. Shipping insured.
