Alle Auktionen / Sonstige / École Espagnole d'Après-Guerre (c. 1940) - "À mon ami Rafael"
- Oil on canvas. Original canvas. Hand-signed dedication. - “Granada 12-1-47. To my friend Rafael.” Behind the apparent sobriety of this dedication drawn on the edge of the canvas, one can glimpse the echo of clandestine affections that postwar Spain forced to code under the prudent label of “friendship.” There is in the languid, concentrated gaze of the young man, in the warm somberness of his features and in the vibrant solidity of the stroke, a degree of surrender and intimacy that exceeds mere pictorial exercise to become a whisper, the confidences of a desire silenced by the dogmas of the moment. The passing of decades tends to erase the shadows of intolerance until, suddenly, like pearls recovered from sand after the tide, testimonies as vehement as this painting emerge: a mark of furtive and quiet passion that survived time to remind us of the impregnable dignity of forbidden love. - Image dimensions without frame: 45 x 38 cm / 57 x 50 cm with exclusive bespoke frame. In Montbaron Gallery, we are pleased to offer our clients an exclusive selection of artworks, all of them unique, original and inimitable.
