Egenolff, Christian - Herbarum, arborum, fructicum, frumentorum ac leguminum, 1552. This’s a famous botanical work of Christian Egenolff is the German Renaissance printer and publisher. He was the first important printer and publisher operating from Frankfurt-am-Main and best known for his "Kräuterbuch", Herbarum, arborum, fruticum, frumentorum ac leguminem.. This 3rd and last edition is extensively illustrated, contains hand-coloured woodcuts illustrating various medicinal plants, herbs, cereals and trees, accompanied by their names in Latin and Old German (for example, Lens / Linsen for lentils or Cepa / Zwibeln for onions). There are about 800 woodcut illustrations in the text. About 700 show trees, fruit, edible and medicinal plants, while the rest show insects, a tick, coral, shells, various sea and land animals and a view of a pond with plants and birds. On the last page there is the image of the woodcut printer's device featuring a flaming heart on an altar, used by Egenolff Published in the middle of the 16th century, this book is part of the great tradition of the first illustrated herbariums of the German Renaissance, which sought to faithfully list the flora and document its medicinal properties. Christian Egenolff pubilshed 3 editions: in 1545, 1546 and 1552 (this last edition). He died in 1555. This is beautiful old printed herbarium (1552), illustrated with hand-coloured wood engravings, and enriched with many handwritten ink annotations on french language of the time. Egenolphum. M. D. LII (1552, Frankfurt am Main) Woodcuts Dimensions: 19 cm x 16 cm Despite its age (474 years old), the colours bright are perfectly preserved. All necessary information and pictures are preserved. The binding in contemporary pigskin is worn. Antique paper shows signs of wear on the peripheral borders, including fraying, tears at the bottom of the Some Pages. There are also haloes of old wetness and browning (oxidation/Rouss). Particularly visible on the outer margins and corners. These stains result from past exposure to humidity or climate fluctuations. Total 315 p Unfortunately Missed: Title page of book and 3 pages of Index 2 pages with the picture of animals was torn. Honestly the condition of this book is good for its age. It has 474 years old! Attention to the details photographs. Any defect not mentioned in the description but visible in the photos is considered as described and cannot give rise to any claim.
