It included three paintings by Raphael, five Titians, eight Poussins, and many more Old Masters, many of which are now in the National Gallery and the National Gallery of Scotland. Victoria Sackville-West (1862-1936), mother of the writer and garden designer Vita Sackville-West (1892-62), chatelaine of Knole in Kent, and lover of Sir John Murray Scott, founder of the Wallace Collection, and the architect Sir Edwin Lutyens.
