Middle Kingdom, ca. 2055 - 1790 BC. A gold swivel ring with a slender hoop supporting an amethyst scarab on a transverse pin between terminals bound with tightly coiled wire. The scarab has a convex back and a flat underside engraved with a symmetrical composition of opposed spiral scrolls framing a central rectangular device.
