Elegant Pendant/Brooch with Diamonds in White Gold, c. 1990

This elegant piece of jewellery can be worn in two ways: it serves as both a brooch and a pendant! The circular body is crafted from white gold and filled with a finely openwork, diagonally arranged lattice. The interlacing lines create a dense diamond pattern reminiscent of a precious net. Six diamonds accent the outer edge at regular intervals, while a slightly larger stone marks the center. Two additional diamonds are set on the loop at the top edge. This loop can be folded down when the piece of jewellery is worn as a brooch and is then nearly invisible. In total, approximately 0.90 ct of diamonds have been set. The piece of jewellery has been meticulously handcrafted. Each of the square cutouts in the domed mesh has been individually sawed out by hand. Just how great was the risk of destroying the entire piece with a single wrong move—and yet how light and ethereal the result appears! The piece of jewellery is reminiscent of the large, round pendants c. 1910. However, the white gold setting and the cuts of the diamonds reveal that it was created more recently—we believe around 1990—as a true tour de force of craftsmanship.
