Escuela Italiana (XVII-XVIII) - Vanitas con pavo real

Escuela Italiana (XVII-XVIII) - Vanitas con pavo real

School: Italian (17th-18th centuries) Style: Baroque Technique: Oil on canvas Condition / support: Re-stretched. It presents restorations. Circle and artistic influence: Work linked to the circle of the great Italian still-life painters of the late Baroque, especially to the decorative tradition developed between the 17th and 18th centuries around compositions of flowers, fruits, birds and exotic animals. Due to its scenic character, ornamental richness and combination of natural elements, it shows affinities with the circle and tradition of painters such as Abraham Brueghel (1631-1697), the Flemish artist active for much of his career in Italy, whose influence was notable in the development of the Italian Baroque still life. Also perceived are echoes of Roman and Neapolitan decorative painting specialized in sottobosco, animals and monumental still lifes. Monumental Baroque still life dominated by the figure of a peacock, depicted in profile and occupying the central axis of the composition. Its dark plumage and long tail create a marked silhouette that contrasts with the bluish sky of the background. The bird is surrounded by an exuberant combination of vegetal elements and animals. In the foreground a plentiful selection of flowers of different species and tones unfolds, accompanied by fruits and vegetation. Among them one can notice white, reddish, orange and blue-flushed flowers, treated with decorative intention and particular attention to their different textures. In the upper left area a vine and clusters of grapes appear, while to the right various fruits are arranged, among them a large opened pomegranate, reinforcing the abundance characteristic of this genre. In a lower plane, partially hidden among the vegetation, the head of a small animal also appears. In the background an open landscape unfolds with vegetation, sky and a vertical water spring, a device that adds depth and dynamism to the composition. The accumulation of flowers, fruits, animals and vegetation builds a scene of great visual richness, a hallmark of the Baroque taste for the exuberance of nature. The work stands out for its considerable format, the theatrical arrangement of the elements and the pronounced contrast between the illuminated areas and the darker background. The presence of the peacock, traditionally associated in European art with beauty, magnificence and immortality, contributes to the sumptuous character of the composition. The work is presented with a gilded wooden frame, of wide stepped profile, composed of several successive moldings. Its gilded finish, slightly aged and showing signs of the passage of time, harmonizes with the historic and ornamental character of the painting. Condition Old work that presents restorations and has been re-stretched, a routine intervention aimed at reinforcing the original support of the canvas. Due to its age, craquelure, wear, small losses, retouching and other signs compatible with the passage of time may be present. It is recommended to examine the photographs carefully as part of the conservation description. Observations The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In such a case, we will require photographs of the damage to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority. PremiArt will not cover this surcharge. The courier that must cross the Swiss border may be delayed much longer than normal, so, if possible, to expedite processing we will provide the Customs number that is holding the shipment so that the client can unblock it and thus reach its destination.
