Émile Gallé, a visionary of the Art Nouveau movement, sparked a revolution in glassmaking in late 19th-century France. Gallé worked from Nancy and combined his passions for botany, poetry, and chemistry to create glass pieces that were both technically innovative and deeply symbolic. His hallmark techniques included cameo glass, acid etching, and wheel-carving, often layered with natural motifs such as flowers, insects, and landscapes. The Gallé workshop, the Cristallerie d'Émile Gallé, became a center of artistic excellence, where skilled artisans brought his intricate designs to life. After his death in 1904, production was continued under the leadership of his son-in-law, Paul Perdrizet, who preserved Gallé's legacy while introducing new designs. The studio remained active into the 1930s and focused on multilayered cameo glass with delicate floral and landscape themes.
