Working through Warlayirti Artists in Balgo, she developed a direct and confident visual language that draws attention to water sources, movement across the land and the relationships that connect them. Her works do not describe landscape in a literal sense, but instead reflect how it is understood, remembered and navigated. This painting depicts Mindiki Karu, Eubena's traditional Country, located east of Kunawarritji (Well 33) along the middle and upper reaches of the Canning Stock Route. The sweeping bands across the composition evoke the tali (sand dunes) that define this landscape, while two tjurrnu (soakwaters) mark vital water sources that sustained people travelling through the region. These places are also associated with the Kinyu, spirit dogs who protected the soakwaters and, according to the story, would prevent strangers from drinking there. At the upper edge of the composition, Eubena has also included the hills where she slept as a young girl, grounding the painting in both ancestral narrative and personal memory. Painted in 2002, the work sits within a strong period of Nampitjin's practice, where clarity of form and a controlled use of colour create depth without overcrowding the surface. The painting brings together topography, cultural knowledge and lived experience, presenting an enduring connection to Country through a visual language that is at once personal and deeply rooted in tradition. © EUBENA NAMPITJIN / Copyright Agency, 2026
