Alle Auktionen / Sonstige / Europese school (XIX-X) - Portrait of a Young Girl with Mandolin
Large early 20th-century portrait of a young girl with mandolin Large and decorative European portrait depicting a young blonde girl dressed in a striking deep blue dress and holding a mandolin. The girl is portrayed full length against a dark interior background. The rich blue tones of the clothing, detailed rendering of the face and hair, and the musical subject give the painting a particularly atmospheric character. The work is presented in an elaborate gilt ornamental frame with floral and foliate decoration. An indistinct painted signature or inscription is visible at the lower left, with what appears to be an indistinct date underneath. The inscription has not been conclusively deciphered and the artist is therefore offered as unidentified. No unsupported attribution is claimed. Period: early 20th century, based on the style and physical characteristics of the work. Exact dating has not been independently authenticated. Technique: oil painting. Subject: portrait of a young girl holding a mandolin. Orientation: vertical. Dimensions of painting: approximately 95 × 48 cm (H × W). Overall dimensions including frame: approximately 117 × 58 cm (H × W). Frame depth: [ADD] cm. Condition: The painting is in aged condition and displays extensive age-related craquelure across the painted surface, particularly visible in the darker areas. There are areas of surface wear, marks and other signs of age. The ornate gilt frame also shows age-related wear, losses, cracking and evidence of old repairs. The reverse has an older backing/support and hanging hardware. Restoration history is unknown. No claim is made that the frame is original to the painting. Please examine all photographs carefully. Detailed photographs of the painted surface, inscription/signature, frame and reverse are included and form an important part of the condition description. Provenance: Private collection. Further earlier provenance is unknown. The painting is offered together with its decorative gilt frame.
