Expressive Vintage Ring With Emerald & Diamonds, ca. 1990

"No other green reaches the splendor of the rich and distinguished emerald. Impossible to compare a green glass with this stone, absurd to name even the sea or a colourful parrot emerald." With these exuberant words, a popular non-fiction book of the first half of the 20th century describes the emerald. The green variety of beryl was already coveted in ancient Egypt, but the best stones come from the famous mines of Colombia. The emerald, with which the present vintage ring of the years around 1990 is decorated, shows exactly this tropical colour. The gemstone is shaped in emerald cut and embedded on both sides between five fine diamonds of very good quality. Upon closer inspection, one can see fine crystal inclusions in the brilliant green stone, which are considered positive identity markers and which are poetically referred to as "jardin" (French for "garden"). Made of high karat white gold, the ring was forged in Germany, as its hallmark suggests. The diamonds on the ring shoulders are set in so-called "channel-settings", which hold the white gemstones from two sides, making their appearance airy and highlighting their brilliance. The ring found its way to us from Wiesbaden, Germany, and comes with an independent certificate confirming the authenticity of the materials. This fine vintage piece of jewellery is then as now a ring with style and class.
